Goals are good, goals are necessary. Realistic goals are even better ;) But I think it's often hard to be accountable for goals that you're only making to yourself.
Beyond the deadlines you must meet and whatever self-imposed daily plans you set for yourself, it can be difficult to work on the longer term goals that have no immediate impact on your customers, clients, readers, etc.
You know, things like marketing, signing up for that newsletter service, taking new photos of your products, getting a shop banner made, keeping up with feedback on etsy... All those things that you want to do and know you should do at some point, can often be procrastinated away or pushed aside when you have only yourself to answer to.
So, if you're having a problem crossing those things off your ever growing to-do list, I have a plan:
A Modish Monthly Goal Meetup
I think it's time to put our goals "out there" a little bit. Out into the open for others to see and maybe even help us with. I'm a firm believer that when you say you're going to do something and other people hear it, it helps you get it done. It puts your intention out into the universe and holds you more accountable to your actions so you can't flake out on yourself as easily.
So, this is the 1st Friday of the month. I propose that every 1st Friday of every month, we check in here with each other and announce a list of our monthly business related goals. Eh? Eh? We can meet each other and help each other meet our goals, yeah! :)
To participate in the meetup, all you have to do is:
- post a list of your business related goals for April on your own blog
- then come back here and leave a link to that post, along with your name please, in the comments!
- or, you can just leave a comment to let me know you'd like to do it, and email me a link to your post later (email: biztips{at}modishblog.com)
*If you don't have your own blog to post to, feel free to just leave your list of goals right in the comments to play along!
I'll make a list of links back to everyone who is participating at the end of this post. That way we can easily see who else is involved, read each other's goals, check in, comment to each other, get advice, offer advice, etc. And above all, we'll feel more responsible for completing our own set of goals for the month!
Then on the 1st Friday of May, we'll check back in with a hopefully crossed off version of April's goals- we can see what we accomplished, which goals we still need to tackle and which ones are maybe not priorities anymore. And if all goes well, we'll start a new list to take on for May!
So let's start with a list of at least 5 goals that you'd like to accomplish this month. Make them specific and realistic. Break down huge things like "start a business" or "build a new website" into small specific steps that you can get done this month, like "get a business license" or "register domain name." Think small steps to make big things happen!
So here goes, my list of goals for April:
- Start a Monthly Goal Meetup on Biztips! ;)
- Get a press/praise page done and up for Biztips
- Get a discounts/deals page done for Modish
- Send out a newsletter to all past Modish Marketing sign-ups about this new blog
- Ask a few more people to create freebies for Modish
- Ask a few more people to do interviews for Do What you Love
- Get busy working out the terms of the new services I'll be offering (hint hint, wink wink ;) and have those detailed and ready to go by the end of the month
- Offer ads on Biztips up to new business at end of the month
Ok, so now it's your turn. What are your business goals for April?
