I went to a little market this weekend and scored a little stash of wonderful things. I wore one of my favorite necklaces there, the fawn from Figs & Ginger. I received compliments galore on the delicate little necklace from the lovely ladies I met there. In fact, when I think back on it, I've received a compliment from someone, friends and strangers alike, almost every time I've worn that necklace. It makes me feel nice. Makes me feel pretty. Makes me feel like I have good taste :) You can feel the same way wearing a necklace from the new collection at Figs & Ginger. I promise, you, and everyone else, will love it.
Mollie Dash is back at it again, with a new and improved site and a beautiful new collection to match!
Not only is her jewelry just stunning, it's made completely from found components- old coins, vintage and thrifted jewelry items, industrial remnants like copper wire, old brooches and more. She breathes new life into old things creating one of a kind pieces that any girl would feel lucky to wear. Take a peek at the whole collection at molliedash.com.

You may remember a post from this past spring where I compared handmade scarves with those you find at big box stores- it was fun and I'm still planning on another post like that comparing different items, like purses, other accessories, jewelry, what have you... but in the meantime, I'd like to present a different facet of the "Hip Handmade" idea by showing how easy it is to find hip, handmade clothing and accessories that you can mix and match with what you've already got in your closet to create some cute, non cookie-cutter outfits.
So, here's my first attempt: casual, yet girly accessories with a vintage feel, using rich chocolate brown as the base color, accented with gold. Dress up your favorite soft tee and some jeans with these items for a perfect look on a mild fall day- bring a cute blazer or cardigan along to keep warm into the night...

Not your grandmama's lace style designs, these pretty pretty necklaces by new label, Munted Kowhai, give a modern spin to old styles. Using crochet and tatting techniques mixed with vintage buttons, each necklace is one-of-a-kind. Their bold colors are modern and when mixed with the metal chains, the combinations are untraditional and original: Victorian girly with a bit of an edge. Check out all the unique designs at Munted Kowhai, and give your neckline the love it deserves!
Innovative, contemporary, original and earth-friendly. Those are some mighty big descriptions to fill, but Aroha Silhouettes lives up to each and every one of them:
Created by Tania, a New Zealander currently residing in Vancouver, this bold and graphic line of jewelry is made completely out of recycled vinyl records, turning trash into new, super modern treasures. Each design has a deceptive 3-D effect when worn that is sure to capture the attention passers-by (and maybe even trip some of them out!) I think they're really original- take a peek at all the fun designs at Aroha Silhouettes!
Fotini Designs has an eclectic collection of jewelry inspired by the creator's long summers spent in Greece, mixed with her upbringing in bustling New York. The results are a great mix of classic and modern design elements that come together in a wonderful way:
I especially love the jewelry that has Fotini's imperfectly shaped discs and drops made from oxidized silver and vermeil- they feel very Grecian to me, simple yet elegant, organic and timeless. And apparently I have Halloween on the mind, as once I started putting together all my favorite picks, I noticed a definite orange and black trend coming through! Take a peek at the whole collection, in all its color, at Fotini Designs!
